The Missouri Morning Mystery of the Nameless Song

By Susang6

A satire for anyone who’s ever been musically tormented before coffee Some Missouri mornings begin peacefully. And then there are mornings when you wake up with a song in your head that refuses to identify itself , like a classic‑rock squatter who broke into your brain overnight and won’t leave. This was one of those mornings.  A soft, cinematic tune definitely from The Insider , which I watched on Paramount+ the night before looped in my head like it had legal residency. No lyrics. No title. No clues. Just vibes and torment. So I did what any musically tortured person would do before coffee: I listened to the entire movie soundtrack on YouTube , scrolling like a detective reviewing evidence in a cold case. Nothing. My husband tried to help. Even when I replayed the closing credits, he shrugged and said, “It’s a classic rock band from the late 1960s.” Great. That narrows it down to… roughly every band ever formed during that decade. So the search continued. I...

The Ethics of Youth Bowhunting in Urban Zones

By Susang6

Across Missouri, urban bowhunting ordinances are being passed in communities like Joplin, Columbia, Branson, and Wildwood. These laws allow hunters including youth as young as 16 to harvest deer within city limits, often on small residential plots. But what happens when the hunter is still learning? What happens when the arrow doesn’t harvest but wounds? This article explores the ethical concerns surrounding youth bowhunting in urban zones. And when that happens, the deer suffers sometimes for hours, sometimes for days. We’ll examine how urban harvests have played out in Columbia, Branson, and Wildwood, and what those outcomes reveal about enforcement, community impact, and the dark side of residential hunting. Extensive research was conducted to support the information shared here, and all sources are c...

Beyond the Rack: Why Ethical Deer Hunting Still Feeds Families

By Susang6

There are two types of deer hunters, in my experience: the trophy hunter and the food hunter . The trophy hunter is after the rack the antlers, the head, the bragging rights. They may field dress the deer for prime cuts, but often leave the carcass behind where the harvest occurred. Once the photo is taken and the venison is packed, they’re gone. The rest of the animal is left to decay in the woods, wasted. Then there’s the hunter who harvests with purpose. The one who uses every part of the deer they can meat, hide, bones because that animal is feeding their family through the winter. These hunters don’t take more than they need. They don’t chase status or social clout. They hunt with reverence. In my family, hunting was never about trophies. My father and both my brothers hunted to stock our freezer and support our neighbors. What we didn’t need, we donated to local charities. My dad always said, “If an animal gives its life, the least we can do is make ...
